Blackwood Brothers Quartet Inducted into Memphis Music Hall of Fame

imageNashville, Tenn) November 15, 2013 –The Blackwood Brothers joined prestigious company on Thursday, November 7, 2013, when they were inducted into the Memphis Music Hall of Fame. The Memphis Music Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony took place at the Gibson Showcase Lounge in Memphis, TN. The Blackwood Brothers joined other 2013 inductees including such notable music legends as Johnny Cash, Albert King, the Bar-Kays, Knox Phillips, Carla Thomas, David Porter, Kay Starr, Rev. Herbert Brewster, and more.  After a moving video presentation honoring the history and legacy of the group, the quartet was inducted by Kevin Kane, Executive Director of Memphis Tourism. Then the quartet took to the stage to do what they do like no other, perform.  The quintessential Blackwood Brothers Quartet performance of “Every Day Will Be Sunday (By and By)” brought the crowd to its feet for the first major moment of the evening.

The Blackwood Brothers Quartet began in 1934 and will celebrate its 80th anniversary in 2014. The current members are Billy Blackwood, Wayne Little, Butch Owens and Michael Helwig. The group has recorded over 200 albums, has won 8 Grammy Awards and 6 GMA Dove Awards.

Billy Blackwood expressed his appreciation for the honor, “we, the Blackwood Brothers Quartet, are humbled by the acknowledgement of the Memphis Music Hall of Fame for the contribution of our group over the past 79 years to the fabric of American music in general and Memphis music in particular. Memphis has been our home base since 1950. From there, the Blackwood Brothers have taken gospel music literally around the world, appearing in every state in the U.S., every Canadian province, and forty-seven countries abroad. It is with great appreciation that we accept inclusion into the Memphis Music Hall of Fame.”

The occasion served as a Blackwood reunion as the quartet was joined by Jimmy and Mona Blackwood, Mark Blackwood, R.W. Blackwood, Jr. and Donna Blackwood, and Kaye Blackwood at the event.

Previous Memphis Music Hall of Fame Inductees have included: W.C.
