Claude Johnson, long time baritone singer and manager of the Wanda Mountain Boys,
has recently announced that after the 2012 concert season the group will take a much
needed sabbatical.
Claude, began his music career nearly 60 years ago and was recently honored with the
Mid America Gospel Music Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award. The group
will wrap up the year with the annual New Year’s Eve program at the Bethalto Church of
God, in Bethalto, IL.
The last two years have been very difficult for Claude as he has lost his wife, Shirley, of
49 years, as well as his singing partner and longtime friend, Rodney Hannis. Both Rod
and Shirley were driving, major forces behind the Wanda Mountain Boys and have left a
void that cannot be filled.
Claude retired several years ago from his company, Trans Supply, in order to take care of
Shirley during her battle with health issues. This sabbatical will give him the opportunity
to enjoy his retirement in full.
The group is still taking dates for the remainder of 2012. If you are interested in having
the Wanda Mountain Boys, make sure to contact us as soon as possible. These dates will
fill up quickly.
Lead singer Gary ONeal will remain involved in Gospel Music in some capacity during
the sabbatical and tenor Glen Gobel will continue to focus on his already established solo
career. (www.GlenGobel.com)
