We asked Barry Shadrix .. What is your favorite Christmas Memory?
I come from a large family. My dad had 7 brothers and 2 sisters and most of them had a lot of kids. Christmas has always been my favorite time of year because I would get to see all of my aunts, uncles and cousins. We would gather each year and my grandparent’s (maw maw and paw paw) house. We would pack into their living room and kitchen like sardines and have the best time and some of the best food ever! In particular, the most exciting part was when it was time to gather around and sing. All of my aunts and uncles love to sing and could sing harmony and made sure this annual singing session was a staple at the Shadrix Christmas Party. My uncle Gary would break out his guitar and impersonate Elvis and sing some funny songs; all of the kids would sing Rudolph and Jingle Bells and it was always so much fun. By the end of the night, we always got into more serious conversations about Jesus and how thankful we were to have Christ as the center of our home and family
Christmas party each year.
The guitars would start strumming again and we’d sing songs like Amazing Grace and Thank You Lord For Your Blessings On Me. We’d read scriptures and my uncles would share testimonies (never ashamed to shed a tear) about how God has been faithful in their lives.
These memories are etched in my mind and I’ll always be so thankful for my family. Even though they may not realize how much I was watching, I learned a lot from my parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins… Gathering with family is so important and JESUS truly is the reason for the season.
